The Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed the staging of the Maharashtra derby between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants at the MCA stadium in Pune on May 1. The court had earlier ordered the shifting of all IPL matches out of drought-hit Maharashtra in the month of May.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had approached the Bombay High Court on Tuesday in a bid to host the match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians at the MCA stadium in Pune on May 1. The board cited logistical difficulties as the reason for their plea. After hearing the plea, the court on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to the BCCI to host the match on May 1.

Earlier, the court had ordered the shifting of all IPL matches out of the drought-hit state in the month of May, citing the severe water crisis the state has been going through. “There is a drought situation in the State, there is not a drop of water available, all dams are drying,” the court had said and asked “whether the State can turn a blind eye to the scarcity of water.”

After the order, Mumbai Indians had opted for Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium as their new home venue, while Rising Pune Supergiants opted for Vishakhapatnam.
