BCCI to set up commentators's academy: Anurag Thakur

“We are planning to have a commentators’ academy where interested youngsters who want to take up the profession will be able to hone their skills. And it will also cater to various regional languages. Look how people liked Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman’s commentary,” Anurag Thakur was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

This move will help the BCCI to expand its broadcasting empire, and something which certainly does not have any precedent. The governing body has recently received a lot of flak for firing veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle. Reports suggest that the BCCI is not too keen on its commentators questioning the selection policy of the board, or talk about the much disputed topic of DRS on air.

An academy will certainly help the BCCI in ascertaining these restrictions on budding commentators from a young age.
