The 2017 IPL already has had catches that will make their way into player collages for the rest of their careers. Against Rising Pune Supergiant, Gujarat captain Suresh Raina added another one to his collection, with a reflex catch that he snatched when the ball was already well past his body.
Raina, who took one of the best catches the IPL has seen in last season's edition against KKR at first slip, was at it again with an absolute beauty to send Ajinkya Rahane packing. After the Pune vice-captain had let the first couple of balls of Praveen Kumar make its way into the hands of the wicket-keeper, he decided to have a go at the third delivery.
The good length delivery moved a little off the seam, but that was enough for it to get a thick outside edge of Rahane's blade. At first, it looked like the ball would find its way through the gap between Raina, who was standing at a wider first slip, and the wicketkeeper. However, the Gujarat captain stretched out his left hand and somehow managed to keep hold of the ball. For a man who has taken a few blinders in his career, the perplexed reaction on Raina's face told the story of how highly he would rate this catch.
