AB de Villiers to miss Gujarat Lions match due to injury

AB de Villiers will not be a part of tonight's clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions in Rajkot due to an unspecified injury. De Villiers had already missed the first two matches of the tournament due to a back injury sustained during the New Zealand series.

After missing the first two matches of the tournament, the South African limited-overs skipper made a stunning comeback scoring an unbeaten 89 in the third match against Kings XI Punjab, albeit in a losing cause. With Chris Gayle and Shane Watson struggling to hit their best, de Villiers’ injury comes as a massive blow for RCB, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.

Batting has let RCB down in the series, more often than not. The Bengaluru-based franchise had already lost Indian opener KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan due to injuries. Virat Kohli, the skipper, had also missed the first three matches of the season. Virat Kohli will hope he and the other batsman stand up in the absence of de Villiers.

De Villiers, today, took to Twitter to announce about his exclusion from the game.

This has also come as a massive news for the Gujarat Lions, who are placed at the seventh position on the table. With de Villiers' ruling himself out, Gujarat team took to Twitter to show their joy, albeit for a different reason.
