Anil Kumble to continue as coach for West Indies tour

Committee of Administrators chief, Vinod Rai, has confirmed that Anil Kumble has been asked to extend his tenure with the Indian team for, at least, the tour of the Caribbean. The final confirmation, however, will be issued by Kumble, if he accepts the role before a permanent coach is hired.

“Anil Kumble to continue as India coach till West Indies tour, subject to his acceptance,” said Vinod Rai, reported PTI.

The entire saga started when a TOI report suggested a rift between Kohli and Kumble. The rumour attracted some interest when the BCCI invited applications for Kumble's job despite the legendary leg-spinner winning all but one series in his one-year tenure as coach.

The Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman met BCCI CEO Rahul Johri late Thursday night. The meeting went on for more than two hours after which it was communicated that the CAC needed more time to think on the issue of interviewing new head coach prospects as it was difficult for them to overlook Anil Kumble's almost spotless record with the Indian team.

Kumble's tenure was supposed to end at the conclusion of the 2017 Champions Trophy 2017, but it appears that due to insufficient time for appointing a possible replacement, the 46-year-old has been asked to continue for at least one more series starting on June 23.
