Watch: Virat Kohli picks up shoulder injury while fielding

In the all-important match in Ranchi, India got off to a good start claiming three Australian wickets before the visitors even got to triple digits. However, it wasn't all hunky-dory for the home side as Virat Kohli had to go off the field to nurse a shoulder injury after a heavy fall.

Unlike the first two Tests, Ranchi has offered a fast outfield due to the hard nature of the soil in the Eastern India. While that comes as a big boost for the Aussie batters, it has taken a toll on the Indian skipper. In the 40th over of the match, Kohli was chasing the ball to save a boundary and while he was able to stop the ball before it crossed the fence, he tumbled over the ropes. The Indian captain fell awkwardly on his shoulder and had to leave the field of play to recieve some treatment. Kohli was seen grimacing in pain and team physio Patrick Farhart immediately took him to the dressing room.

From that point on, Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took over the charge of the captaincy of the team, until Kohli gets fit to field again. Indian fans will hope that their captain is able to get back to the play as soon as possible with Australia looking to post a big score in theor first innings.
