Steve Smith’s inspiring captaincy was one of the reasons for Pune’s spectacular performance this season and today, in the final against Mumbai, he came up with a fantastic throw to dismiss Ambati Rayudu. Standing at mid-off, Smith produced a brilliant throw to send Rayudu packing

After Jaydev Unadkat ran riot to dismiss Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons within 8 runs, Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma were supposed to take the responsibility of bailing the team out of the precarious situation they found themselves in. Although they tried to forge a good partnership, the Pune skipper had other ideas.

In the eighth over of the innings, when Mumbai were at 41/2, Rayudu went down the track and drove a Lockie Ferguson delivery towards mid-off. Thinking there was a quick single on offer, he gave the call to his skipper who quickly acknowledged. However, Smith who is one of the best fielders in the world, moved across to his left and released the ball in one quick motion to hit the stumps at the bowler's end.

After the dismissal, Mumbai lost their way and let handed the initiative to Pune. At the time end of the first innings, Mumbai could only manage at 129/8.
