WATCH : MS Dhoni fails to control emotions after stumping Glenn Maxwell

Calm and composed are the two words that have defined MS Dhoni’s aura as a cricketer and a skipper. Yesterday, though, the former Indian skipper showed his boisterous celebration after getting rid of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell with a signature stumping off a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery.

Dhoni has proven more than once that why he has been touted the best wicket-keeper batsman in the world and his lightning-quick stumpings behind the stumps has become a part of the folklore and added to his legacy. His recently achieved feat of 100 ODI stumping put him at the top of the hierarchy. Yesterday, although Dhoni failed to contribute too much with the bat, he made sure he left  a mark on the game in front of a packed Eden Gardens.

After Travis Head’s dismissal in the 17th over, Glenn Maxwell joined his skipper Steve Smith, and not surprisingly, hit a couple of well-connected sweeps over the square-leg fence to get going. The crowd that was celebrating Head’s departure just a while ago turned dead quiet following Maxwell’s assault. However, the batsman’s aggression led to his demise soon after as Maxwell charged down to hit Chahal for a big shot, but the bowler, reading his movement early, bowled a flighted delivery that slipped between his legs before Dhoni completed a signature smart stumping.

Although the ball was at a very low position and Dhoni, being blinded by the batsman, fumbled a bit, he composed himself quickly and whipped off the bails to complete the stumping to give India the edge in the game. After the dismissal, Dhoni threw the ball to the air and started celebrating - something he very rarely does.
