Supreme court-approved constitution registered by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) registered the Supreme Court-approved constitution with the Registrar of Societies of Tamil Nadu at Chennai. The Supreme Court had given the Indian cricket board a deadline of four weeks to register the new constitution, starting August 9.

The Supreme Court gave relaxation in few of the reforms, before instructing BCCI to register the new constitution. BCCI's new constitution has been registered with the Registrar of Societies of Tamil Nadu at Chennai.

“We thank the Honorable Supreme Court for their directions and are pleased to start the process today by the submission of the new constitution of the BCCI with the Tamil Nadu Registrar of Societies at Chennai. We are committed to implementing the Supreme Court directive in its entirety," CoA chairman Vinod Rai said.

In the new constitution, the Supreme Court has ruled out the 'one state one vote’ norm. The change came as a huge relief to the associations like Gujarat and Maharashtra and even to associations like Railways, Services, and Universities. According to the new constitution, the office bearers will not be allowed to serve two consecutive terms.

Moreover, the number of members in the selection committee will no longer be curbed to just three members. The Supreme Court has told BCCI and the member associations to implement the reforms of the new constitution in a time period of 30 days.
