VIDEO | Virat Kohli left stunned as Dhoni Review System finally fails

Virat Kohli’s biggest edge over his opponents has always been MS Dhoni standing behind the stumps, whose calls are always on bulls-eye. However, the Dhoni Review System finally failed on Tuesday as replays showed David Miller escaping Yuzvendra Chahal’s ball by a whisker and that left Kohli stunned.

After posting a meagre 274 as the target, India’s had to wrap up South Africa as soon as possible to seal the series. And the visitors finally saw a ray of hope when Aiden Markram was finally returning to the pavilion following what a 52-run partnership with Hashim Amla. However, as soon as the first wicket fell, the floodgate had opened as big names like JP Duminy and AB de Villers fell within the next 13 runs, giving all the reason for Kohli to have a realistic chance of sealing the series.

The incident occured in the third ball of the 17 over when Chahal’s delicious loopy delivery forced Miller to prod forward to defend, before beating on the inside edge and hitting plumb on his front pad. St. George’s Park was expected to be kind to spinners and this delivery was exemplary of how lethal it would be for the Proteas to deal with.

Chahal was more than confirmed about Miller’s dismissal with Kohli joining him soon and confirming it with Dhoni, who had a loud appeal for it. However, the umpire was not convinced with it and India were forced to take their only review. Given how dangerous Miller’s 39-run knock proved to be in the last game, it was definitely worth a shot to review.

However, HawkEye, to everyone’s surprise, showed the ball pitching around off and spinning past the leg stump by a whisker. Kohli was the most surprised of the lot as the camera caught the wide-eyed skipper utter the word, "missing". Though the incredible spin on the track definitely encouraged the Indian team, Dhoni’s misjudgement will surely remain a source of worry for Kohli now.
