VIDEO | Ahmed Shehzad tries pushing fellow batsman out of crease to avoid getting run out

PSL could easily be touted as the goldmine of the most bizarre of run-outs in world cricket. Almost every game in the “world’s second best T20 league, only after IPL” has chances of witnessing epic miscommunications between batsmen that not only amuse the viewers but the commentators as well.

The incident in question happened in the 16th match of PSL played between Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans. Batting first, Ahmed Shehzad and Kumar Sangakkara got off to a good start before the former Sri Lanka star was dismissed at 28, reducing Multan to 51/1, and Maqsood came in.

Things seemed to be moving smoothly as they forged another 50-run partnership, when the incident happened. It was in the 14th over when Umaid Asif was bowling to Maqsood. His delivery got Maqsood’s inside edge and the batsman took a couple of steps ahead, encouraging Shehzad to make the run. However, with Asif following up with his ball, Maqsood changed his mind soon leaving Shehzad in no man’s land. 

Seeing Shehzad well out of his crease, Asif was quick to turn around and run back to flick the bails off. However, it was on the other end that the circus happened. After bumping into Asif on his way, Shehzad struggled to reach the striker’s end and seeing that he had no way back, even attempted to push Maqsood out of his crease.  

However, it remained a fruitless attempt as Maqsood held his ground strongly and Shehzad had to return to the pavilion. Multan won the game in the end, which remained a consolation for Shehzad on a bad day.
