VIDEO | Colombo stray dog storms pitch in match against England to bring back memories of 2008 IPL

Every once in a while, a dog enters the cricket stadium, and though it creates chaos for a while, it is always fun to see on television. While it mostly happens in India, a stray dog in Colombo entered the field of play to delay Jonny Bairstow’s century and also gave some time for people to enjoy.

No team, apart from India in 2017 and Australia in 2004, had whitewashed Sri Lanka in a Test series in the island nation and when England took on the field in an attempt to become the third team to achieve the feat, there was a fair amount of excitement among them. However, Rory Burns and Keaton Jennings couldn’t make any statement in the beginning and the onus was on Jonny Bairstow, who was in a delicate position to save his own spot as well as guide the team to a good total.

After he guided the team to a comfortable position with an innings of authority, England finally seemed to have been enjoying the proceedings and was waiting for the newly-appointed No. 3 to score the century. But it seemed like the fans were not happy and neither was a Sri Lankan dog present there.

The stray dog rushed onto the field of play to bring a halt to the game and after enjoying his stay in the middle, the dog decided to leave without the help of any stewards. If this isn't a wakeup call for Sri Lankan cricket, we really don't know what is.
