The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian High Commission has intimated the Antigua government about beefing up security for the Indian team. Earlier in the day, the PCB had received a security threat to the Indian team via mail and they informed ICC after that.
On Sunday morning, there were reports that the Indian cricket board received a mail about a potential security threat to the Indian team. Currently, the Men in Blue are in playing a warm-up match against West Indies ‘A’ at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua, as part of their preparation for the upcoming Test series. Taking stock of the issue, the BCCI informed the Indian High Commission about it and has intimated the Antigua government about beefing up security for the Indian team.
“We have informed the security agencies and it has been found out that it was a hoax email,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
The board assured reporters that all appropriate measures are being taken to ensure that security of the team is not compromised.
“We informed the High Commission in Antigua and they have in turn informed the local government over there. The security is being monitored and if need be will be beefed up adequately. As of now, they are still getting the same level of security,” the official said.
The first of two Tests between India and the West Indies will start from August 22.
