Dinesh Karthik has stated that MS Dhoni has the donned the role of the finisher for India for many years now and added that the latter can stay calm and absorb the pressure as long as he is at the crease. Earlier today, Dhoni, riding on an unbeaten half-century, managed to win the match for India.

After losing the first match of the series against Australia, the Indian team has made a strong comeback and has won the second game. In the last match, Dhoni had scored a slow fifty for which the Indian Wicketkeeper was heavily criticized. But the right-hander turned the tables in the second game to score a run a ball fifty and take India to victory chasing down 299 runs with four balls to spare in the match.

Praising his teammate, Dinesh Karthik stated that Dhoni has been doing the job of the finisher for many years for the Indian cricket and knows very well how to handle himself in such pressure situations.

"It was a pretty tight finish. They were bowling some good areas and we absorbed pressure well," Karthik said after the post-match press conference.

"Credit to Virat and Dhoni, the way they played. We got a good start as well so it's the sort of win that will give the team a lot of confidence, chasing 300.

"(Dhoni) has been doing it for years now and the fact he can stay calm, the fact he can absorb pressure and watch the ball, keep the plan very simple. You need the big shot and then he delivers."

In the similar vein Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who was also the man of the match for scoring 103 runs, also praised the veteran player. Kohli also praised Dinesh Karthik who is still trying to carve a permanent spot for himself in the Indian ODI team. Karthik played a valuable cameo of 24 runs from just 14 balls after Kohli fell without concluding the task for India.

"Tonight was an MS classic. Only he knows what's going through his mind. He calculates the game so well. He backs himself to hit those big hits. Hats off to him and Dinesh as well.

"He came in and showed the right kind of intent. MS was as composed as ever. We try and help each other... Tonight was special for us," Kohli said.
