Hardik Pandya is not the fastest bowler around and his bowling is based on a careful foundation of keeping the ball in good length and moving it from there. However, Southampton saw a different Pandya altogether as his climbing delivery stunned Faf du Plessis and his bat flew away from his hands.
India decided to rest Mohammed Shami and Pandya became the default third pacer in the team. Considering South Africa added a spinner in the form of Tabraiz Shamsi in the team to replace Lungi Ngidi, it became a clear sign why they decided to bat first despite knowing that India were good in chasing. However, it also came as an opportunity for Pandya to step out of the others’ shadows and prove that he can be India’s proper third seamer in favourable conditions.
He looked determined to prove his prowess and in the 13th over, he bowled a thunderbolt to announce his arrival. After testing du Plessis regularly in three consecutive deliveries, Pandya bowled a delivery on a good length which kicked off from the position and suddenly climbed on the South African skipper.
As if the all-rounder was in search of validation, du Plessis lost control over the grip and the bat flew from his hand. Although du Plessis and Quinton de Kock completed the single, the former was seen having some pain in his finger. However, that was a moment which was enough for the ever-ecstatic Bharat Army to go at the top of their lungs and applaud for Pandya.
