The Indian team did not have a great outing against South Africa in the 2nd ODI. The former Indian cricketer raised some questions on the selection of Washington Sundar to the line-up. But amidst all this, he also targeted a fan by calling it a paid campaign by Riyan Parag.

There is always a player who gets thrashed with words even in games where he is not involved. And in the second ODI match between India and South Africa. India suffered a brutal loss in this game, as the team was not able to defend the target of 359 runs at their own home ground.

Following this, there were questions raised on the selection of Washington Sundar to the line-up. He was not able to give his best to the team, neither with bat or ball, and this was pointed out by a former Indian cricketer. But a fan opinion in the favour of Riyan Parag might have just exposed his fanbase.

1. Goswami Speaks on Sundar’s Performances

Washington Sundar was also a part of the Indian team which played against South Africa in the 2nd ODI. The entire team was able to score in double digits, but this was not the case with Washington Sundar. In the game where India scored 358 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, Sundar scored just one run off 8 balls.

Still, fans expected India to use Sundar as an extra bowling option. But that also did not happen in the game. Washington Sundar had bowled just 4 overs in the game, where he conceded 28 runs at an economy of 7. Failing to take wickets in his first spell didn't allow Washington Sundar to return with the ball during the game.

Following his performances, Shreevats Goswami, former Indian cricketer, took it to . He said, “If Washi is someone who bowls 4 overs bats at 6. Tilak can do that as well. He can roll his arm when needed and can add power hitting & depth. I have nothing against washi, he’s a quality cricketer but just feels if this is his role , Tilak can do better. No?”

2. Parag’s Fans vs Goswami

The tweet made by Shreevats Goswami was expected to be a discussion tweet. But it was stormed up by all the fans who wanted Riyan Parag in India's ODI side. A few fans supported the call of Goswami to have Tilak Varma in the team in place of Sundar, but a few of them even wanted to have Riyan Parag to the line-up.

A said, “Riyan Parag was the simple answer to this question. Someone who can score quick runs in middle order (exactly what is missing) and give 4-5 overs with the ball. He was the inform batter in the matches where Tilak struggled.” It didn't look like Shreevats Goswami would be responding to the same.

But by saying, “Not sure where this Riyan Parag fan page has been activated all of a sudden. He is and should no where be close “ at the moment “ for a ODI call up ! So please .. STOP doing the PR.” It should be noted that this is not the only tweet which was made to his post regarding the inclusion of Riyan Parag to the ODI side.

3. Parag in ODIs

Riyan Parag has played just one ODI match for the Indian team, which also turned out to be his last. He played for India in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in 2024. Throughout the series, he was not selected for the first two games, but got an opportunity to play for the team in the third match. Sri Lanka was batting first in this game, and Patah had an opportunity to shine with the ball.

Despite Riyan Parag playing his first ODI match, he was able to take 3 wickets. Parag bowled 9 overs in the game, and he finished with the spell of 54/3. But with the bat, Parag was only able to score 15 runs for the team, and India ended up falling long way short to this massive chase set by the Sri Lankan batsmen.
