BBL | Twitter shocked as Shaheen Afridi responds to smashing with beamer barrage that cuts his quota short

Melbourne Renegades capitalized on the opportunity to bat first in their season opener against Brisbane Heat in Geelong on Monday by putting up the first 200-plus total at the GHMBA Stadium in tournament history. Tim Seifert led the charge with a 53-ball ton while youngster Ollie Peake blitzed 57 in just 29 deliveries to help set a target of 213 for the hosts. With the ball, Jack Wildermuth scalped 3/34 while Xavier Bartlett conceded at just run-a-ball in the high scoring affair, also picking up Josh Brown in the process. However, all their good work seemed to be undone by the efforts of their marquee signing and BBL debutant Shaheen Afridi, as his contributions hurt not only his team but the opposition as well, literally.

Afridi was welcomed to the BBL by veteran Tim Seifert with two thumping boundaries in the first over, which forced his skipper Nathan McSweeney to keep him for the back end of the innings. The southpaw entered the attack again in the 13th over, only for Seifert to dump him 80 metres square off a slower bouncer before slciing another off-pace delivery over third man for four. Young Ollie Peake added to the torment with another boundary off the last ball in what turned out to be a 19-run over. When Afridi returned for a third time in the 18th over, he seemed already at rock bottom but little was he aware there were new pits to fall into. Afridi began with a fulltoss at the stumps which was effortlessly put away by Peake for a six, and two balls later the Pakistani quick failed to find the deck again as he hurled a waist-high full-toss at Seifert. The umpires were quick to call a no-ball but two deliveries later, Afridi yet again breached the height limit to be calld for another no-ball. The lack of control came to a head on the fifth ball when Afridi slung one straight at Peake's chest, who somehow managed to sway out of the way but the keeper couldn't as the Kookaburra struck him and rolled past for a couple of no-ball byes. Disappointed, Afridi began walking back to his mark when the umpire called him over and handed him his cap and sunglasses, labelling Afridi's miscues as dangerous bowling which effectively keeps him from bowling the rest of the game.

Afridi was embarrassed and shocked as he tried to put up a meek defence but quickl accepted his fate and walked off into the sunset, his figures for the evening reading a horrid 0/43 from 2.4 overs.
