BAN vs PAK | Twitter amused as DRS helps uphold 'spirit of cricket' by making Fakhar walk

Gone are the days when a batsman could edge the ball to first slip and be saved by the umpire's ignorance -- instead, they are now more willing to walk even when given not-out. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman chose to walk in Dhaka on Tuesday when Bangladesh opted for DRS, knowing he was out.

Pakistan suffered a horrid collapse while chasing a meagre 134 in the second T20I at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday and wer eleft reeling at 15/5 after five overs. The ruination began in the first over itself when Saim Ayub ran himself out courtsesy some brilliant work by Rishad Hossain, before Mohammad Haris was trapped plumb by Shoriful Islam just three deliveries later for a golden duck. The visitors' batting in the first T20I had followed a similar script, and as was the case then they still had Fakhar Zaman at the crease who ha comfortably outscored all his compatriots a couple nights ago. The attack-minded batter had no different plans for Tuesday either but came out second best in absurd fashion on this occasion.

Up against Shoriful, Fakhar charged down the track on the second ball of the fourth over only for the left-arm quick to respond with a short of a length delivery sliding down his leg. The opener frantically tried to pull at the ball last second but failed in his attempt as the Kookaburra flew into a sprinting Litton Das' hand, who immediately went up in loud appeal with the rest of his contingent. However, the umpire remained unmoved, and showed no hesitation in signalling for a review. That was all the prerogative Fakhar needed to walk off the field, knowing he had nicked the ball and would be caught red-handed by technology. The umpire took cognizance too by simply ruling the batter out instead of going through the whole review ordeal, as the Tigers erupted in ecstacy.

Twitterati was quick to commend Fakhar for refusing to waste time, as well as the umpires for letting common sense take precedence over protocol.
