Fielding always lifts the side in make-or-break games, and Amandeep Kaur showed that with an excellent effort against South Africa in the final of the ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai. The Indian all-rounder showed quick feet to pick up the ball and produced an accurate throw to dismiss Tazmin Brits.

‌After being put into bat at the DY Patil Sports Complex in Navi Mumbai, India put on a daunting 298/7 in their allotted 50 overs. The Women in Blue were guided by Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma, who scored half-centuries, to take the side close to the 300-run mark.

Shafali hit seven fours and two sixes to make 87 off 78 balls while Deepti had three fours and a six in her run-a-ball 58. For the Proteas, medium pacer Ayabonga Khaka picked up 3/58 in during hr nine-over spell.

In return, South Africa had a good start with openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits adding 50 runs inside 10 overs. Just as the pair looked to run away with the game from the hosts, Amandeep Kaur produced an excellent piece of work on the field to catch Brits short.

With medium pacer Renuka Singh pushing an inswinger that went into Brits after pitching on a shot of a length, Brits had to punch the ball off her back foot. Just as the ball went in the direction of mid on, where Amanjot was stationed, the batter took off for a quick single.

But the Indian all-rounder was quick to sprint towards the ball before breaking the stumps with an accurate throw. Brits tried in vain to make her ground as she realised her folly of taking on the quick Amandeep.

Amandeep was pumped up and her teammates rushed to applaud her brilliant effort that broke the dangerous looking opening stand. Brits was shell-shocked as she started her long walk back to the pavilion.

Twitter was in awe as Amandeep produced a crucial dismissal right in the nick of time to keep the Women in Blue in the game.
