It is unique due to the jinx that the teams had broken down across several tournaments. This year could also be termed as a year of firsts, with teams that could not win a single trophy ending

It all started with the Hobart Hurricanes winning the Big Bash League. And now the tradition has continued with the other teams winning the trophies for the first time. Another name has been added to this iconic list of firsts, with the Indian team winning the Women's World Cup for the very first time. Let's take a look at this year of firsts in cricket.

1. Hobart Hurricanes Wins BBL

Hobart Hurricanes got the taste of winning the Big Bash League for the very first time in 2025. Like any other season, the team started off well in the Big Bash League 2024/25 season. They finished 1st in the points table with 7 wins in 10 games. For a spot in the finals, the team went against the Sydney Sixers and won the game by 12 runs.

Later in the finals, Hobart Hurricanes went against Sydney Thunder to clinch their first title. In this game, Sydney Thunder batted first and scored 182 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. During the chase, Mitchell Owen seemed to have been in a different phase, with his eyes set on the Big Bash League title.

The team scored 74 runs in 4 overs, giving them an upper hand in the game. Mitchell Owen was the top scorer with 108 runs off 42 balls, with 6 fours and 11 sixes, as Matthew Wade went on to finish the game for the team. With this, Hobart Hurricanes won the game by 7 wickets and also clinched their first-ever BBL title.

2. RCB Wins IPL

Fans had no idea how unique the year 2025 could turn out to be till the IPL 2025 started. Royal Challengers Bengaluru had not won the title even once in 17 editions, but this one changed the team's history forever. Being led by their new skipper, Rajat Patidar, RCB decided to create history and join Hobart Hurricanes in the year of firsts.

Eventually, the team finished 2nd in the league stages, winning all of their away games. In Qualifier 1, RCB went against Punjab Kings and won the match with ease, with 8 wickets remaining. Next in the finals, RCB again went against Punjab Kings, as the team decided to bat first in the game.

Scoring 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, it was now in the hands of the bowlers to defend the same. And the job was done perfectly with Krunal Pandya being the Trump Card. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the game by 6 runs, as Virat Kohli finally got to lay his hands on the IPL trophy after 18 years.

3. South Africa Wins ICC Title

South Africa also decided to join this list when the team went against Australia in the World Test Championship final. The match was being played at The Lord's, as Australia was batting first in this game. The team scored 212 runs in the first innings, and South Africa was bundled out for just 138 runs in its first innings.

With Australia starting their second innings on a lead, the team scored 207 runs in the second innings. South Africa stood at 70/2 in the chase, but Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma took the center stage. Bavuma smashed a half-century, as Aiden Markram scored a ton, which helped South Africa beat Australia by 5 wickets and win their first ICC trophy in this century.

4. India Wins Women's World Cup

The year of firsts was not just limited to the Men's cricket team, as the India Women's team also decided to join. In the Women's World Cup 2025, the team was able to win three matches out of seven in the league stages. This positioned them 4th in the league stages, and they qualified for the semi-final match against Australia.
