Fast bowlers are often seen as pushovers on the field, but Mohammed Siraj proved that wrong with an impressive effort against South Africa A in the second unofficial Test in Bengaluru. The Indian pacer caught Prenelan Subrayen napping with an excellent pick-up and a direct hit from covers.

‌India A fought back with an impressive bowling performance against South Africa A on the second day of the second unofficial Test in Bengaluru on Friday. After being dismissed for just 255, courtesy of Dhruv Jurel’s unbeaten century, at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence Ground 1 on the previous day, the home side reduced the Proteas to 12/3 inside eight overs.

Another collapse saw the side slip to 121/7, with captain Marques Ackermann scoring an aggressive hundred to take his side close to the hosts’ first innings tally. The southpaw smashed 14 fours and three sixes to score a 99-ball hundred, while also adding a crucial 86-run partnership with Prenelan Subrayen for the eighth wicket.

Just as the visitors went past the 200-run mark and looked set to go past India’s total, Mohammed Siraj produced a moment of brilliance to catch Subrayen napping. Ackermann punched the second ball of the 46th over from Prasidh Krishna to the covers and took a few steps with the intention of pulling off a quick single.

But just as Siraj charged to the ball and picked it up, he sent Subrayen back as the pacer took aim at the stumps. The South African spinner was a tad lazy in getting back as the red cherry hit the stumps, and replays showed him short of the crease.

Siraj was chuffed as he broke a crucial partnership and celebrated with his teammates while walking back for tea. He was very animated, explaining to Devdutt Padikkal how he had only one stump to aim at and still managed to come up with a stunning throw.

Twitter was in awe as Siraj reminded the cricketing world of Ravindra Jadeja with his stunning fielding effort.
