Alex Iwobi, now excelling at Fulham, credits Frank Lampard for reviving his career during a tough spell at Everton. Under Rafa Benitez, Iwobi nearly went on loan, but Lampard repositioned him in midfield, unlocking his potential. In the 2022–23 season, Iwobi recorded 2 goals, 7 assists, and 64 chances created in 38 games.

As the 2024/25 season concluded, Frank Lampard’s impact as Everton manager has been reassessed, with particular praise coming from former player Alex Iwobi. Despite only managing the club for one season and facing a difficult task to keep Everton in the Premier League, Lampard was credited with tactical acumen by legend Duncan Ferguson and with reviving Iwobi’s career. Iwobi, who joined Everton in 2019 for £34 million, struggled to find form under previous managers Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.

Benitez’s tenure was especially damaging, as he even considered sending the Nigerian midfielder out on loan. However, Lampard’s arrival changed that trajectory. By repositioning Iwobi into midfield and encouraging him to express himself, Lampard unlocked his potential. In the 2022/23 season, Iwobi played 38 games, scoring 2 goals, providing 7 assists, and creating 64 chances with a dribble success rate of 52.4%.

Though Iwobi eventually moved to Fulham for £22 million, his transformation under Lampard’s guidance remains evident. Lampard has since moved to manage Coventry City, leading them to a strong Championship campaign, narrowly missing out on the playoffs with 69 points. The former Chelsea star’s ability to develop players like Iwobi demonstrates his growing managerial promise despite the challenges faced at Everton.
