Real Madrid are assessing Sporting CP teenager Salvador Blopa as Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to face limited minutes this season. The English defender has only twelve appearances and just two La Liga starts, falling behind Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde. Manchester United are currently leading the race for Blopa, who is contracted until June 2026.

Doing the rounds in Spain this season is the growing concern around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role at Real Madrid, as the club quietly explores alternatives for the right side of defence. Signed on a free transfer in 2025 after leaving Liverpool, the English full back arrived with high expectations but has struggled to secure a regular place. He has made 12 appearances so far, yet has not started a single Champions League match and has only two starts in La Liga.

A hamstring injury in September and October stalled his rhythm, and he currently sits behind Dani Carvajal and even midfielder Federico Valverde in the pecking order. Reports now link Real Madrid with Sporting CP B talent Salvador Blopa, an eighteen year old right back whose progress has attracted attention. Although Blopa would not immediately displace Alexander Arnold, his development and low cost make him an appealing long term option, especially with the Englishman earning around sixteen million euros per year.

Manchester United, however, are said to be ahead in the race after holding discussions for a possible winter move. Real Madrid would prefer Alexander Arnold to settle and claim the position, but Carvajal’s age at thirty-three and Valverde’s natural role in midfield mean patience may not last forever
