Records and stats from Karun Nair's bat and the Chennai Test
Karun Nair became only the third player in Test history to turn his maiden hundred into a triple century and took India to their highest-ever total in Tests in the fifth Test against England. Along with his sublime record, the Test match has already seen records tumble. Here some of those records:-
759/7 - This is the highest-ever total by India in Test cricket. The earlier record of 726/9 was made by MS Dhoni’s men in 2009 against Sri Lanka. This is also the highest total by any country against England.
303* - Karnataka lad Karun Nair scored his first-ever century and duly converted that into a triple century. In the process, he became only the third cricketer to do so after the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers (365*) and Bob Simpson (311).
This is also the highest score by an Indian batsman against England.
2 - The No. of 200-plus scores by Indian batsmen at No. 5 or lower in Tests before Karun Nair. Only former Test skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and VVS Laxman have done it before.
2- This was the second instance of India having four 100+ stands in an innings after four against WI in Kanpur in 1979.
2- Nair is only the second Indian to score a triple-century.
3 - This is the third triple-century by an Indian batsman. Earlier, inimitable Virender Sehwag had struck two triple centuries himself- one against Pakistan and one against South Africa.

4- This is only the fourth instance of a team scoring 600 or more in consecutive innings. (India scored 631 in their first and only innings of the fourth Test). Previous instances were Aus v Eng, 1946, WI v Ind, 1948, Ind v SL, 2009.
5- Ravichandran Ashwin became the 5th all-rounder in Test history to aggregate 300+ runs and claim 25+ wickets in same Test series.
6 - No. of Indian batsmen who have made 100s
6 – Karun Nair at 25 years is now the sixth-youngest batsman in the international cricket to notch up a triple hundred. Nair is also the youngest Indian to score a triple-century.
9 - Number of times batsmen have been dismissed at 199. KL Rahul joins Mohammad Azharuddin as the second Indian in the list.

199-KL Rahul’s 199 yesterday was the second highest by an Indian opener against England. Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar scored 221 runs against England at the Oval.
