Abhimanyu Easwaran has once again showcased some great performances. But this time, it happened in the T20 format of the game. Easwaran made sure to give some of his best knocks in the SMAT, as Ravichandran Ashwin took a dig at the BCCI Selectors.
Imagine you are giving your best in the domestic format but still not being able to make it to the Indian team. This has been the case with Abhimanyu Easwaran over the past few years. He is able to get his name in the list of India A, and even play for them. But when it comes to the Indian team, in the squad but not in the playing XI.
This has been going on with Easwaran over the last few years. And now, Easwaran has decided to give a statement of intent to the selectors in not just one but two formats. Due to this reason, he is also playing for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and he went on to score a century for the team.
1. Easwaran Rocks the SMAT
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, an intense clash which broke records in the tournament took place. And this was the clash between Punjab and Bengal, which involved several great players. Punjab was batting first in this game, as the team was able to score 310 runs for the loss of 5 wickets
Now, it was time for Bengal to chase down the target. But it seemed that the team had accepted the loss already, as their batsmen were consistently losing wickets. It should also be noted that the team stood at the score of 7/3 at one stage, and fans thought that Punjab might be able to end the game soon.
But this time, it was Abhimanyu Easwaran who wanted to give a statement. He came to bat at number three for the team, and went on to score runs. Taking a look at Bengal's innings, it looked as if Abhimanyu Easwaran was batting at than the other batsmen of the team, as he remained not out.
He was able to score 130 runs off 66 balls for the team, when no other batsmen, except Akash Deep, crossed double digits. Easwaran was able to score these runs with the help of 11 sixes and 8 fours. With this, Punjab was able to win the game, but Easwaran was able to give a statement of intent to the selectors.
2. Ashwin Trolls Selectors
The knock played by Abhimanyu Easwaran in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Punjab had impressed everyone. But it seems that most of them know what will be happening next. Easwaran has not been able to make it to the Indian team till now, despite giving his best to them. To this, Ravichandran Ashwin decided on his YouTube channel.
He passed a sarcastic comment on the selectors , “Abhimanyu Easwaran scored a hundred in T20 also now. Now we can get to see him for sure now. Given that he has now scored runs in T20, for sure we will get to see him in the Test team now.”With this, he was able to troll the selectors and even urge them to get Easwaran to the Test side.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has also been unhappy, after being ignored by the BCCI for a long time. He said,“Yes, it does hurt sometimes. You put in all the effort, train hard, and the dream is to be in the middle, to perform, to contribute to wins. But I'm fortunate to have a solid support system: my family, friends, and coach. They help me stay grounded and motivated. Right now, I'm in a good headspace and looking forward to the Ranji season.”
3. Easwaran's First Class Dominance
Fans have also started to call Abhimanyu Easwaran as Sarfaraz Khan who did not even make his debut. Despite having good stats in the first class format, he has not managed to make it to the Indian team. Although he gets selected in the squad of the team, he never makes it to the playing XI, which makes it disheartening for him.
Abhimanyu Easwaran in First Class Cricket:
- Innings: 187
- Not Out: 17
- Runs: 8136
- Average: 47.85
- Strike Rate: 54.34
- 100s: 27
- 50s: 34
It can be seen that Easwaran has made more than 100 appearances in the first class format. Still, he has not managed to make his debut for the Indian team in the Test format. Now, India will be playing the next home game against Afghanistan which will take place in June 2026, as fans hope Easwaran could finally make his long-awaited debut.
