Ravichandran Ashwin is dropping the truth every now and then since he has retired. He recently spoke about the contribution of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to the Indian team. Giving them the credit to India's intent, Ashwin praised their role in shaping the new style of the Indian cricket team.

The intent of the Indian team has clearly changed over the past few years. And it all started just time for the 2023 World Cup, when the batsmen would charge down the bowlers in the power play. Fans do remember watching Rohit Sharma score quick runs for the Indian team in the power play which was played at home.

This further helped to set the tone for the batters that were slotted to come in next. And now, even though Rohit plays just one format, this intent continues. Ravichandran Ashwin, the former Indian spinner, decided to talk about this intent of the Indian team and how it has shaped the team's success in the limited overs format.

1. Ashwin Credits Dravid & Rohit

Ever since Ashwin has retired, he has been a lot active on his YouTube channel. Recently, he posted a video talking about India's success in the first ODI match against South Africa. The team scored runs at a rapid pace, which allowed them to post a big total, and it further from the Proteas.

Ashwin talked about how the intent of the team has changed. , “Rohit Sharma & Rahul Dravid deserve all credit for India's aggressive approach in both T20i & ODIs. Rahul Dravid set the way, and Rohit showed the way to everyone. Now batting is not average; it's purely strike rate in white ball cricket. The way we are playing with the intent it tells shows how much opposition is feared.”

This statement by Ashwin has quickly taken over the internet. And it is somehow true, as the idea was brought by Rahul Dravid and it was implemented successfully by Rohit Sharma. But the way Ashwin decided to speak facts, it has taken over the internet with storm. Several fans also say that watching Rohit Sharma in the power play is just like watching Brendon McCullum in his prime.

2. Rohit Credits Dravid

Ashwin is not the only one who has given credit to Rahul Dravid for the current intent of the Indian cricket team. Even Rohit Sharma did it a few months back, when he was present at the CEAT Awards. Rohit Sharma was set to receive an award for leading India to win the Champions Trophy 2025, and about the team's former Head Coach, Rahul Dravid.

“All the guys who took part in that competition (Champions Trophy) got into that thought process of how to win games and how to challenge ourselves and not be complacent and not to take anything for granted. Those were the qualities that we tried to bring in and we thought it was a good method of just going and doing that repeatedly. Everyone enjoyed that process. Once we got over the line when we won the first game, we completely put that game aside and then started focusing on the next one. That was really good from the team and that is something that helped me and Rahul bhai when we were planning for the (2024) T20 World Cup, and then on to the Champions Trophy. We just carried it well.”

Rohit also talked about the loss which the team suffered in the 2023 World Cup finals. He said,“In 2023, although we didn't cross the line in the finals, we set out to do something as a team and everyone did that.”

3. Rohit's Strained Relations with Gambhir & Agarkar

These statements by Ravichandran Ashwin have come at a time when Rohit Sharma is reportedly having some strained relations. And his relations have strained with the BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. This has been going on just in the ODI format, as Rohit Sharma is of the Indian team.

Some reports even say that Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma did not even have a single interaction with each other during the India tour of Australia. And it should also be noted that Agarkar is not travelling with the Indian team in the current series against South Africa. Moreover, some viral photos on the internet show that Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir are having a serious talk in the dressing room.
