Former BCCI selector has given a warning to Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar. This warning is related to the things which are taking place in the Indian dugout lately in the ODI format. With the tensions rising, fans await to see what actually happens in the BCCI meeting.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy is about to commence soon, and it is just a few weeks away. Amidst this, there are reports that fans could have Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in this tournament. It has been reported that the BCCI has directed Rohit and Virat to be a part of the tournament
But to this matter, a former BCCI selector has sent a warning to the Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and the BCCI Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar. MSK Prasad has spoken on this fact, saying that it won't be good to have them play in domestics, noting the experience they hold for the Indian cricket team. Recently in the ODI against South Africa, Kohli and Rohit played vital knocks.
1. Kohli and Rohit to Play Domestics
The BCCI has given directives to the Indian players to participate in the domestic tournaments. This can be seen even in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where several Indian players are performing for their state teams. But the main objective of this directive was to ensure that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the
They are currently playing for India in just one format of the game. RoKo retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, and retired together in Tests too, in May 2025. And now, since they are just a part of the ODI team, there have been calls on their selection for the 2027 World Cup.
The BCCI has also directed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. While sources say that Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will play in the tournament, there is no such confirmation from Virat Kohli. The reports say that Virat Kohli will likely play for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy but
After the match against South Africa, Kohli said, “I've never been a big believer of a lot of preparation, if that makes sense. All my cricket has been mental. As long as I feel mentally I can play the game, I work physically very hard every day of my life. It's got nothing to do with cricket anymore.”
2. MSK Prasad Warns Gambhir-Agarkar
MSK Prasad, the former Indian cricketer, has spoken on this matter. He was not satisfied with the BCCI giving directives to Kohli and Rohit to represent themselves in the domestic format. It should be noted that Prasad was the National Chief Selector of the team from 2016 to 2020, and even selected the team
Prasad cited the lack of communication in this case, , “One should be careful that the issue is not brought up all the time. We never had a word with Dhoni about playing domestic cricket. He played whenever he felt it was necessary. There should be clear communication up front. Or else, stick to the perform-or-perish policy. There should not be any scope for ambiguity.”
He further continued by saying,“First thing that needs to be ensured is that you shouldn't be messing with the minds of such big players. They are the ones who are performing, not the younger lot. It will be ideal if they play domestic cricket when they are not on national duty, because that will also inspire the young players in the state teams.”
3. RoKo Heroics in First ODI
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again continued to showcase their heroics for the Indian team in the first ODI against South Africa. India did lose the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early, but then came the storm of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together. Rohit went on to score 57 runs for the team, and he played in the way he used to do earlier, showing that
Along with that, Virat Kohli showed once again why he is the King of the Game. He went on to score 135 runs for the Indian team in the match, and silenced all the critics and questions on his availability for the 2027 World Cup. Now, both of them will also be playing for India in the second ODI, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow at Raipur.
