IND v SA | Twitter lashes out after Harshit Rana takes frustration of being battered on umpire

Fast bowlers tend to lose their cool easily when batters target them, and Harshit Rana was a picture of frustration after being pummelled by Dewald Brevis in the second ODI in Raipur. The pacer took out his anger on the umpire, who, as per replays, gave the right call of a wide down the leg side.

Harshit Rana

‌After being put into bat at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, India put on a formidable 358/5 in the second ODI against South Africa. The home side were well-served by centuries from Virat Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105), who also added 195 runs for the third wicket after the openers departed early on.

The Proteas were also not going to give up without a fight, with Aiden Markram leading the charge in the run chase. The opener hit 10 fours and four sixes during his 98-ball 110, adding 101 for the second wicket with skipper Temba Bavuma as well.

From then on, the middle order duo of Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis took over, with the latter being the aggressor during their partnership. With 93 runs required from the last 11 overs, the Chennai Super Kings batter took on Harshit Rana with two huge sixes off consecutive balls in the 40th over.

The bowler slightly erred in his line while trying to find the blockhole off the next delivery as the ball went down the leg side to wicketkeeper KL Rahul. The umpire immediately signalled a wide with the bowler and the keeper duo getting irked by the call.

Harshit was not at all impressed as he angrily responded to the umpire that the ball was hitting the pads and how it could be given a wide. Rahul also shared an equally helpless gesture with the umpire nodding in disagreement.

However, replays showed why the umpire was firm on his call, with UltraEdge showing a flat line as the ball went past the batter. Sunil Gavaskar rightly called on air that all the histrionics were unnecessary. Twitter echoed the former Indian great’s stance as they felt the all-rounder jumped the gun pretty quickly.
