‌Adelaide Strikers leapfrogged Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League 2025-26 points table with a seven-wicket win in Adelaide on Wednesday. Chris Lynn made light work of the chase of 122 with a belligerent half-century after Jamie Overton headed an incisive bowling performance from the home side with a three-wicket haul. The win took the Strikers to fourth place with four points from four matches as Heat stayed just below due to an inferior net run rate.

After opting to bowl at the Adelaide Oval, the home side had Brisbane under the mat with the pace trio of Liam Scott, Luke Wood, and Overton all striking to reduce them to 17/3 inside five overs. In the next over, Lynn’s brilliant piece of fielding caught the in-form Matthew Renshaw short of the crease, and soon the Heat were reeling at 47/6 just after the halfway mark. Some valuable contributions from the lower middle order helped the visitors cross the 100-run mark, lending their total some respect. Matthew Kuhnemann top-scored for the Heat, hitting three sixes and a four during his unbeaten knock of 31 off 22 balls, while Hugh Weibgen (28) and Captain Xavier Bartlett (19) also chipped in to help the side to 121 before they were all out with two balls remaining. Meanwhile, Overton ended with impressive figures of 3/19 in four overs, with Scott and Hasan Ali also picking up two wickets.

In return, skipper Matthew Short started with two boundaries in the first two overs but looked off colour after that, playing as many as eight dot balls in the next two overs. However, Lynn compensated for that with two sixes off Bartlett as the Strikers ended the mandatory four-over powerplay at 33/0. Though Short departed in the eighth over after a struggling knock, Lynn kept the side in the chase, finding boundaries frequently. The veteran batter hit consecutive boundaries off medium pacer Jack Wildermuth in the 11th over, the second of which brought up his 50 in just 30 balls. From then on, it was smooth sailing for the home side, with the opener’s pyrotechnics taking the side home with 35 balls to spare. Lynn smashed six sixes and fours to remain unbeaten on 79 off just 41 balls as the Strikers went past the target to finish at 125/3. For the visitors, Oli Patterson, Bartlett and Thomas Balkin picked up a wicket each.
