IND vs PAK | India move to two in two in Women's World Cup with 12th straight ODI win over Pakistan

India made light work of Pakistan in their second round clash of the Women's World Cup, at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Harleen Deol's anchoring effort and late Richa Ghosh fireworks took India to 247 before three scalps each for Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma helped seal a 88-run win.

Brief score: IND 247 (50) [Deol 46(65), Ghosh 35*(20); Baig 4/69 (10)] beat PAK 159 (43) [Amin 81(106), Pervaiz 33(46); Gaud 3/20 (10)] by 88 runs
Asked to bat first, India began confidently with Smriti Mandhana striking a boundary in the opening over before Pratika Rawal scored a hattrick of them off Diana Baig. The duo kept plugging along at a handsome rate with the latter playing aggressor for a change but just as they were on the brink of another half-century stand, Fatima Sana delivered a gorgeous inducker to pin Mandhana LBW for 23. A significant slowdown followed as the field also spread, and culminated in Rawal bouncing one over an attempted cut to strike timber. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur walked in next but struggled for rhythm throughout a sturgglesome 34-ball stay for 19, eventually ticking one down leg off Baig. Jemimah Rodrigues should have departed in similar fashion just two overs later but on this occassion Baig overstepped, allowing the World Cup debutant a lifeline. Jemimah quickly got going thereafter, finding the boundary at impressive frequency, but her bludgeoning stand with Deol was cut short when the latter tried to break the shackles and holed out for 46. Rodrigues followed suit a couple over late for 32, and India suddenly found themselves 159/5 with 15 overs to go. India decided to promote Sneh Rana over Richa Ghosh to save the latter for the death but the former scraped through for a rusty 20 off 33 deliveries, leaving the Women in Blue in dure straits. However, Ghosh's eventual arrival paid off as she smashed three boundaries and two maximums in an unbeaten 35 off 20, while wickets kept falling at the other end to see India bowled out for 247 on the last ball of the innings.
In response, Pakistan got off to a frantic start with Renuka Singh and Kranti Gaud hopping the ball around under clouds. India spurned a review in the first over, but also failed to take two that would have resulted in wickets as the openers struggled to take away. However, the inevitable breakthrough arrived in bizarre fashion, when Muneeba Ali was caught with her bat in the air while lounging around her crease in a controversial run-out decision. Sadaf Shamas followed soon after by popping a simple return catch to Kranti Gaud, the Women in Green ending the powerplay at 25/2. Gaud added a second in the 12th over by having Aliya Riaz caught at second slip, inducing a further slow down in Pakistan's innings. Natalia Pervaiz ultimately broke the shackles with two boundaries off Rana in the 16th over while Sidra Amin struck Pakistan's first maximum against India in ODI cricket two overs later. The partnership soon started getting steam and had grown to 69 when Gaud produced another crucial breakthrough immediately after coming on for a second spell by dispatching Pervaiz for a 46-ball 33. Skipper Sana departed shortly after for single digits as the required run rate grew crossed seven and a half with 20 overs to go. Nevertheless, Amin kept trotting along to bring up a 81-ball fifty. However, the required rate kept growing out of control even as Amin tried to limit damage with a couple of fours, and things came to a boil in the 38th over. Sidra Nawaz played a Rana full-toss straight back to her, triggering a drastic collapse from 143/5 to 159/10 as Deepti scalped three while Amin eventually fell to Rana for 81, as India secured a 88-run win.
