IND vs WI | Campbell and Hope tons drag match into final day with India 58 runs away from victory

India were set a 121-run target in the second Test between India and West Indies, at Arun Jaitley Stadium, and ended Day 4 needing 58 more with nine wickets left. Earlier, centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope, and a 79-run final wicket stand had kept India in the field for 200 consecutive overs.

Shai Hope and John Campbell struck tons each to drag the second Test between India and West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to Day 5

Brief score: IND 518/5d & 63/1 (Sudharsan 30, Rahul 25; Warrican 1/15) need 58 runs to win vs WI 248 & 390 (Campbell 115, Hope 103; Bumrah 3/44)

Resuming from an overnight score of 177/2, the Windies pair of Shai Hope and John Campbell picked up exactly where they had left off as their partnership went past 150 early on Day 4. The duo managed to survive a riveting Jasprit Bumrah spell early on that produced a couple of close calls, including a slightly lucky reprieve for Campbell after the third-umpire deemed an impossible-to-say bat-pad as wood first. The opener thereafter stuck in to get to 94, where he meandered around for 10 deliveries before ultimately deciding to take Ravindra Jadeja on with a statement-making maximum to bring up a maiden Test ton. It was the first for a Windies batter in 202, first by an opener for them in two and a half-years, and the first by a Caribbean opener in India since 2002. However, the hourly drinks break proved to be his undoing as just three deliveries later he tried an audacious reverse sweep against the left-arm spinner, only to be struck plumb in fromt and depart for 115. Nevertheless, skipper Roston Chase walked in next with the same poise and intent, reverse-sweeping Jadeja for four early on before smashing Washington Sundar for a maximum. There were no further hiccups for the visitors until Lunch, with India's lead now just 18 and the new ball two overs away.

The Men in Blue opted for the fresh new red cherry as soon as it became available but Hope only used the hard leather to edge a four past the slips in the 82nd over and bring up a third Test century, with the first two coming in the same Test eight years ago. The next over saw the Caribbean men take the lead in the game for the first time but, like Campbell, Hope perished soon after the ton as he played on a sharply inseaming Mohammed Siraj delivery that kept low. Tevin Imlach and Chase suffered the same fate against Kuldeep Yadav in successive overs, the former pinned in front by a shooter for 12 while the skipper lobbed a catch to short midwicket. The left-arm wristspinner added a third for the innings in the same over as Chase's departure, when Khary Pierre holed out looking to go big against him, bookmkarking the Windies collapse from 271/3 to 298/7. Jasprit Bumrah got on the board a couple of overs later by rattling Jomel Warrican's stumps with a viciously angling in-seamer and then had Anderson Phillip nick behind with a similar delivery that kept straight, forcing Tea to be delayed as the Windies were just one wicket away from tumbling out with their lead reading 41. However, to the hosts' utter frustration, Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales batted out the extra half hour with discipline and authority, the latter toning down on his big shots after a few desperate tries early on. On the last ball before Tea, Greaves struck Sundar for four at long-on to complete a half-century partnership, as they headed into the break with the lead now 91 runs.

The 10th wicket pair added 29 more in the third session, as Greaves brought up his fifty and the partnership rose to 79, before Seales finally chipped a Bumrah delivery to square leg to set India a target of 121. Yashasvi Jaiswal recognized the opportunity to obtain a result on the day itself and chose the gung-ho route, but managed just two boundaries in a seevn-ball stay before holing out to long-on. KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan played their usual brand of cricket thereafter, quietly chipping away at Windies' hopes of victory with a 54-run stand to leave India staring at a clean-sweep with jsut 58 required on the final day.

Going on to day 5!
