IND vs WI | Twitter in splits as Reiffel waits for dancing Jadeja to get annoyed before raising his finger

Nothing is more satisfying for a bowler in Test cricket than breaking a long stand that has haunted their team, something Ravindra Jadeja was able to achieve in Delhi on Sunday. However, the spinner did not have it straightforward, and umpire Paul Reiffel added to the misery by sticking to protocol.

Ravindra Jadeja broke a near-double century stand for India against the West Indies in Delhi on Sunday

West Indian batters John Campbell and Shai Hope continued to look comfortable at the crease at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Day 4 as their overnight partnership of 135 swelled further, while the former brought up a maiden Test ton with a maximum off Ravindra Jadeja. However, it was the left-arm spinner that ultimately had the last laugh post-drinks, quite literally, with a celebrappeal for the ages that did not seem to go down well with umpire Paul Reiffel.

On the third ball of the 64th over, Jadeja trundled in from over the wicket and delivered a length delivery on middle that spun back a hint to deceive the reverse-sweeping Campbell and strike his pad plumb in front of the stumps. The Indian contingent immediately erupted into a deafening appeal, except Jadeja who instead chose to skip the step and start celebrating instead. The veteran continued down the pitch in his bowling follow-through without turning back, mixing two raised arms with one-footed hops and a wide smile plastered across his face in a display of unadulterated joy. However, as Jadeja made his way all the way to the slips and tried to dap up his teammates, he realized that they were still busy appealing, at which point he finally turned around and with a frustrated scream appealed to the umpire. Reiffel had what he wanted and did not waste any time in raising his finger, resigning Campbell back to the pavilion and allowing Jadeja's celebrations to continue.

Twitterati was thoroughly enthralled.
