AFG vs BAN Review | Afghanistan outmuscle Bangladesh by mammoth 200-run margin in third ODI to win series 3-0

Afghanistan sealed the three-match ODI series with a dominant margin of 3-0, defeating Bangladesh by a huge margin of 200 runs in the third and last ODI of the three-match series. Bilal Sami’s sensational bowling performance (5/33) played a central role in Afghanistan’s massive series win.

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and asked his batters to take charge. The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran stitched an amazing opening partnership of 99 runs in 15.6 overs. This partnership ended when Gurbaz fell prey to Tanvir Islam on the last ball of the 16th over. Gurbaz scored 42 runs off 44 balls, with five fours and a six. Following Gurbaz’s dismissal, Ibrahim Zadran and number three batter Sediqullah Atal stitched another crucial partnership of 74 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed in an unfortunate run-out, at the individual score of 29 (47). Zadran went on to play a brilliant knock of 95 runs off 111 balls, with seven fours and two sixes. Later, around the end of the innings, the veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi smashed a blistering knock of 62 runs off just 37 balls, with four fours and five sixes. These knocks helped Afghanistan post 293/9 on the board in the allotted 50 overs. Saif Hassan displayed an outstanding bowling performance for Bangladesh, scalping three wickets for just six runs in his four overs, including a maiden over. Besides him, Hasan Mahmud and Tanvir Islam also picked two wickets each for their side, alongside a wicket bagged by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
While chasing the target, only the opener Saif Hassan played a knock of 43 runs off 54 balls, with two fours and three sixes. He was the only batter for Bangladesh who played a double-digit individual knock. After losing their first wicket at the team score of 35 runs in the ninth over, Bangladesh fell in a drastic collapse and started losing wickets at quick intervals. Eventually, they were bundled out at the score of just 93 runs in 27.1 overs. Bilal Sami starred with the ball for Afghanistan as he claimed a sensational five-wicket haul, picking five wickets for just 33 runs in 7.1 overs. He was accompanied by the star spinner Rashid Khan, who scalped three wickets for just 12 runs in six overs, including a maiden over. Star all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai also picked a wicket, conceding just 20 runs in his six overs. With this win, Afghanistan won the three-match ODI series, with a clean-sweep margin of 3-0, winning all three games against Bangladesh.
Bilal Sami won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his outstanding and match-winning five-wicket haul (5/33 in 7.1 overs). His unbelievable bowling performance helped Afghanistan bundle out Bangladesh below the total of 100 runs and clinch a massive 200-run victory to win the three-match ODI series.
