BAN vs WI | Windies crumble to 117 all-out in pursuit of daunting 297 as Bangladesh take ODI series 2-1

Bangladesh dominated the series decider on another woeful batting track in Mirpur as a dominating 179-run opening stand between Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan set them up for their second biggest ODI win. Defending 297, the Tigers needed just four spinners to bowl out the visitors for 117.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a riveting start with Saif Hassan beginning proceedings with back-toback boundaries off Akeal Hosein in the first over. West Indies continued with their strategy of opening with two spinners but the opening duo was determined not to let the turning pitch dictate proceedings, hallmarked by a stunning takedown of Roston Chase in the eighth over with a four and two sixes. By the end of the powerplay, the team had raced along to 74/0, with Soumya Sarkar taking over aggressor duties from his partner after a scratchy start. The Caribbean outfit finally brought on a pacer in Justin Greaves after having gone the entire previous game without utlizing one, but the Tigers quickly hurried him out of the attack with 18 of his first two overs. Sarkar soon brought up a 14th ODI half-century, off 48 balls, while Hassan got to the mark for the first time in his career with a four off hus 44th delivery as the partnership raced past 100. The Windies tried to seize momentum by bringing on Alick Athanaze after he conceded just 14 in 10 overs in the second ODI, only to be taken for nearly as much in his second over as the score read 139/0 after 20. However, just when both batters seemed bound to bring uptriple figures, Hassan holed out off Chase for 80, inducing a brief slowdown that culinated in Sarkar befalling the same fate just nine away from a ton. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy had nowhere near the same intent as their predecessors as an excruciating slow down featuring a seven over boundary-less spell, and eventually resulted in the latter departing for 28 with 10 overs remaining and the score 231/3. However, Shanto flipped a switch after the wicker and stuck two big blows to seize back momentum, only falling victim for 44 to an absolute blinder from Athanaze off his own bowling in the 44th over. The wicket triggered a typical collapse from the Asian unit as Hosein scalped three in his penultimate over to hollow out the middle order but skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nasum Ahmed combined for a final flourish of 35 to take the total to a daunting 296/8 at the end of 50.
West Indies' chase began ominously when opening bowler Nasum let slip Athanaze on just the fourth ball off the innings, but had the last laugh anyway when he pinned his counterpart plumb in the fifth over for a well-made 15. The spinner added Ackeem Auguste and Brandon King to his tally in his next two overs respectively to further dent back Caribbean hopes as the side found themselves reeling at 39/3 at the end of the powerplay. The mounting pressure allowed Tanvir Islam to scalp big fish Shai Hope in the 14th over as he tried to break the shackles after a 16-ball struggle, leaving the onus on Sherfane Rutherford and Keacy Carty to pull off a game-changing stand. The duo could only manage 17 in response, before Rishad Hossain sent back the former with a soft dismissal and then dispatched Chase gor a duck just three balls later. Islam practically sealed proceedings with Carty's wicket two overs later to make the score read 67/7, before Rishad's third made it 82/8 at the halfway stage of the innings. Hosein put up a brave counterattack late on by taking the wristspinner 20 runs in the 29th over but Mehidy hurried to the end with the wickets of Grave and Hosein in successive overs to bowl out the Windies for 117 and seal a 179-run win for the Tigers.
