SA W vs ENG W | Twitter stands up to Laura Wolvaardt after Proteas skipper plays timeless knock

Laura Wolvaardt came up with a captain’s knock during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup semifinal game against England in Guwahati on Wednesday. The South Africa skipper’s effort was well acknowledged even by the opposition players, who gave her an adorable send-off after her marathon knock.

After being put into bat at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati, South Africa got off to an excellent start against England in the Women’s ODI World Cup semifinal on Wednesday. Openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits put on a century stand before two mini-collapses saw the Proteas slip to 202/6 in the 41st over.
Skipper Wolvaardt was there in the middle, watching the batting unravel from the other end, but kept her calm to bring up her first World Cup century in 115 balls. She, then, shifted gears, unbelievably, to plunder the next 50 runs in just 21 balls to reach 150.
Just as she tried to up the ante further to take her side past the 300–run mark, the opener was caught in the deep by Alice Capsey off Lauren Bell. But she had already played her part, smashing 20 fours and four sixes during her 143-ball 169 in a crucial World Cup knockout game.
The England players rightly ran towards her with pats on the back and handshakes as the captain started her walk back to the pavilion. The fact that the players rushed towards her even before going to the huddle spoke a lot about her sterling knock.
Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone ran all the way from the fine leg fence to give the Proteas skipper a handshake before she crossed the boundary. Wolvaardt returned the favour as she walked a few yards towards Ecclestone to receive the acknowledgement.
Twitter stood together with the England side in applause as Wolvaardt played one of the best innings in an ODI World Cup knockout match for her country.

But what were they thinking promoting Jafta and Dercksen ahead of Tryon and especially Nadine de Klerk, who's in such great form!!
Even now, why isn't Nadine in at no.8! Baffling!
Nice one for her and team!
