1. The Incident
Ben Austin was practicing with his team on Tuesday, as they prepared for the upcoming matches. Before the game, the team was present at the Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully, in Melbourne’s east. This is also where Ben came to bat and he started to practice some fine strokes
During the practice, he was struck on the neck with the ball, following which he immediately collapsed. Emergency services were also called upon the location, and paramedics rushed to check in on the batsman. He was wearing a helmet at that time but some reports also say that he did not wear a neck protection at that time.

He was admitted in the hospital for a few days as the doctors tried their level best to save him. But the efforts went in vain, as Vale Ben Austin lost his life on Thursday. Soon, his cricket club posted an announcement on their social media to inform them about the passing away of their young talent.

Following his death, Ben Austin’s father talked about his son by saying, “He was an adored son, deeply loved brother to Cooper and Zach and a shining light in the lives of our family and friends. This tragedy has taken Ben from us, but we find some comfort that he was doing something he did for so many summers – going down to the nets with mates to play cricket. He loved cricket and it was one of the joys of his life.”
