The date, i.e., 2nd of the month, has been familiar to the Indian fans. The last time India won the World Cup was in 2011, and it was also played on 2nd April. The months have changed this time, but the date remains the same. India now has a chance to script history to win their second World Cup on the 2nd of the month.

The last time India won the World Cup finals was in 2011. India came out on top against Australia in the Quarter-final and Pakistan in the semi-final. Now it was just the one last mile for the team, which was set to be played against Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Sri Lanka batted first in this game, and the Indian bowlers had a strong start. However, Sri Lanka took no time to mark its comeback, as Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara had a well-set partnership. This helped the team reach a total of 274, with Jayawardene scoring a ton for the team.

Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh took 2 wickets for the team, as Harbhajan Singh ended up with a wicket. Now for the chase, India had to get a good start with Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar at the crease. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir had a well-set partnership, which put India back into the game. Kohli got out after scoring 35 runs, as Gambhir and Dhoni went for the chase. Towards the end, Gambhir lost his wicket after scoring 97 runs off 122 balls. But Dhoni took the center stage and ensured that the match went India's way.

Dhoni finished the game by smashing a six, and fans still remember the lines, “Dhoni finishes off in style.”India ended their World Cup drought of 28 years by winning the title finally on that date.
