The world of franchise cricket is evolving at a rapid pace. And this pace is now also being followed by the English T20 league, The Hundred. This tournament has been played since 2021, but it has never had the same auction scenario. Players were picked by their teams and had to play for the season.
But things are now about to change for the upcoming edition of the tournament. The Hundred will now be having its first-ever auction, which is set to take place in March 2026. With its first auction, there will be several changes that fans will be able to see in the tournament, as they await the official details for the same.
1. Auction Details
The first-ever auction of The Hundred will take place in March 2026. Since there is a lot of time for the month to arrive, the official details of the same have not been revealed yet. Still, a few information have been given out to the fans to let them know how the auction will take place for the same.
Teams will now have a major opportunity to bring changes in their line-ups for the next season. With the first-ever auction, the salary pots will be increased for both men's and women's teams. This is a significant move by the England and Wales Cricket Board to allow more and more players
Each team will be allowed to have 16 to 18 members in their line-up through the auction. Since it is the very first auction of the tournament, teams will not be missing out on the opportunity to get the best. Another major news that has been revealed for the same is that four overseas players will also be allowed per team.

Among the four signings that have been included by the team, they can have up to two players who are under the England Central Contract. The remaining players can be overseas or even a part of domestic cricket. This will allow the teams to get their squad balanced ahead of the first-ever auction.

With the growing popularity of The Hundred, the purse of each team has increased. This has eventually led to the increase in the salary pots of the players. After the latest edition, the salary pots for the Men's team were increased to £2.5 million per team. And for the Women's team, it has also risen to £880,000 per team.
The base salaries for each player in the Women's Hundred is also increased to £15,000. This is a significant increase as compared to the last season, showing the resurgence of the franchise league.
Here are the details of the purse which will be deducted based upon the Pre-auction signings by the teams:
- Men’s Hundred: £350k (1 signing), £650k (2 players), £850k (3 players), £950k (4 players).
- Women's Hundred: £130k (1 signing), £240k (2 players), £310k (3 players), £360k (4 players).
With this amount being deducted from the purse, teams will have the right chance to build a great lineup.

Upon this announcement, the Hundred management has reacted positively to this move. The Managing Director of the tournament said, “This is a hugely exciting time for The Hundred. These changes will help us make the competition even better, ensuring we get the best players in the world and improving the standard of cricket and level of entertainment further again.”
