Mumbai Indians surely have been one of the most dominant teams in the IPL. But recently, the team has struggled to secure wins in the tournament, with their last title coming in 2020. When asked about the same, Mahela Jayawardene gave one of the finest answers to ever exist.

Mahela Jayawardene’s Honest Take on MI’s 5-Year Title Drought Goes Viral.

The five time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians are in question regarding their form. They have not been able to win even a single final since the 2020 win. Not only that, ever since their last final win, the team has not even managed to reach the finals of any season since IPL 2021.

Recently, Mahela Jayawardene was asked about the same. He responded by saying,“10 teams makes it even harder competition. But I think in the last 5 years, we were in the playoffs 2 or 3 times, if I am not mistaken. So that means we had our opportunities in just that last bit. I don't know how to answer this properly. In a competition like this, you have to take one game at a time and go through the process. As a team, we know that we have done well consistently over a period of time.”

Along with that, Jayawardene even took a dig at the teams which are yet to win the IPL even once. He said,“Saying we haven't won it for 4 years. But some teams haven't won it forever either. So we are not rubbing it in. But with all due respect, we just thought that we would trust our process. And work on ourselves on how we need to go about it.”

Our Take

Mahela Jayawardene’s reply on the form of Mumbai Indians was hilarious and optimistic at the same time. With his words, it can be seen that Jayawardene is optimistic for his team to win the IPL title for the sixth time in 2026. But the way he trolled the teams with no titles till now was way too hilarious for the fans to hear.
