West Ham Transfer Target Franculino Dju Faces Goal Drought

West Ham’s former target Franculino Dju has not scored in his last eight games for Midtjylland and Guinea-Bissau after an impressive start of nine goals in 10 appearances. The £13 million bid from West Ham was rejected last summer. With new head coach Nuno and agent Jorge Mendes now influential at the club, Dju’s chances of a January move remain uncertain.
After the departure of Graham Potter, West Ham United’s head of recruitment, Kyle Macaulay, is also expected to leave the club. Macaulay, who has worked alongside Potter at Ostersunds, Swansea, Brighton, and Chelsea, now finds his position vulnerable under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who, alongside agent Jorge Mendes, seeks greater control over transfers. Macaulay’s exit casts uncertainty over West Ham’s interest in Danish Superliga striker Franculino Dju, a £13 million target during the summer transfer window.
Dju, a 21-year-old Guinea Bissau international and former Benfica academy graduate, scored nine goals in his first ten games of the 2025/26 season but has now gone eight matches without finding the net. Midtjylland coach Mike Tullberg attributes the dry spell to the natural inconsistencies of youth rather than transfer distractions. Despite interest from Bayern Munich and PSG, Dju’s form has stalled since West Ham’s bid, raising questions about his January prospects.
West Ham are also monitoring forwards Idrissa Gueye and Callum Marshall, while current strikers Niclas Fullkrug and Callum Wilson have managed only one Premier League goal combined. With Nuno now planning for the January window, the Hammers may reinforce their attacking options, but the future of targets identified by Macaulay remains uncertain.
