Lionel Messi’s £9.5 million Ibiza mansion faces partial demolition after investigations revealed unauthorized constructions like outdoor lounges, terraces, and a converted garage. Built without proper permits, the 548-square-meter villa violates Spain’s environmental laws. Authorities in Sant Josep de sa Talaia have reportedly labeled it a toxic asset, demanding restoration and fines.

For the Argentine legend Lionel Messi, trouble seems to be brewing off the pitch as reports suggest his £9.5 million Ibiza mansion is facing the risk of partial demolition. The luxurious 548-square-meter villa, located in the exclusive area of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, was reportedly built without proper construction permits. Investigations by the local town council uncovered several unauthorized additions, including outdoor lounges with pergolas, elevated terraces on protected land, and a garage converted into a living space.

These violations allegedly breach Spain’s coastal and environmental protection laws, earning the estate the label of a “toxic asset” from local authorities. Messi purchased the 16,000-square-meter estate in 2022 after his World Cup triumph, but the issue intensified when Ibiza declared a water shortage emergency last year, heightening environmental concerns. His legal team reportedly proposed partial demolitions and fines to regularize the property, yet a formal demolition order was issued in September 2024.

The mansion’s value has since dropped, with ongoing legal scrutiny and protests from eco-activist group Futuro Vegetal, who vandalized the property in 2024. The case continues to stir debate over celebrity privilege, environmental responsibility, and urban planning enforcement in Ibiza’s fragile ecosystem.
