Barcelona midfielder Pedri has suffered a tear in his left thigh’s distal biceps femoris muscle and will miss around four weeks. The 22-year-old, who has played 1,117 minutes across 13 matches this season, joins Raphinha, Lewandowski, Gavi, and others on the injury list, leaving Hansi Flick without nearly half his regular starters.
For the defending La Liga champions Barcelona, the injury crisis has deepened following their El Clásico defeat to Real Madrid, with star midfielder Pedri the latest to join the sidelines. The 22-year-old sustained a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh during Sunday’s 2-1 loss and is expected to be out for at least four weeks, ruling him out until after the November international break.
Pedri had been a crucial figure under Hansi Flick, playing 72 of 73 matches since the German took charge and logging 1,117 minutes in 13 appearances this season alone. His absence adds to a growing list of injuries that already includes Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Joan García, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Andreas Christensen, nearly half of Flick’s usual starting XI.
During his recovery, Pedri is set to miss key fixtures against Elche, Club Brugge, Celta Vigo, and Athletic Bilbao, and could also be sidelined for the Chelsea clash on November 25 if his recovery extends. Additionally, he will be unavailable for Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Türkiye. With Barcelona now trailing Real Madrid by five points, Flick’s side faces a tough task to maintain momentum without their midfield linchpin.
