Mohamed Salah Dismisses Al-Ahly Transfer Rumours Amid Liverpool Struggles

Al-Ahly’s former director Sayed Abdel Hafeez denied reports linking Mohamed Salah with a move to the Egyptian club, confirming no official contact was made.

Al-Ahly’s former director Sayed Abdel Hafeez denied reports linking Mohamed Salah with a move to the Egyptian club, confirming no official contact was made. Despite signing a new Liverpool contract in April 2025, Salah has managed only three goals and two assists in nine league games, as the Reds sit seventh after four straight defeats.
Between the highs of last season and the struggles of 2025–26, Mohamed Salah’s form has sharply dipped at Liverpool. After scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists in the previous campaign, the 33-year-old has managed only three goals and two assists in nine Premier League matches this season. Liverpool’s overall form has also faltered, with the team sitting seventh in the table following four straight league defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United and Brentford.
Despite rumours linking Salah with a move to Egyptian club Al-Ahly, former sporting director Sayed Abdel Hafeez denied any official interest, stressing that the reports were media speculation. He reiterated that Salah, who renewed his Liverpool contract in April until 2027, remains focused on his professional career.
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has criticised Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk for failing to lead effectively amid the team’s poor run, citing their negative body language and lack of influence. Liverpool’s woes deepened with a Carabao Cup exit in the fourth round against Crystal Palace, where Ismaila Sarr scored twice and Yeremy Pino added another. Manager Arne Slot now faces pressure to turn things around ahead of their Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
