Gujarat Lions all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was reprimanded by the match referee on Sunday for showing dissent at the umpire during the team’s defeat to Kings XI Punjab at Rajkot. The incident took place after the left-hander was given out caught behind off Axar Patel by the umpire.

“In the VIVO IPL match in Rajkot this evening, Ravindra Jadeja of Gujarat Lions was reprimanded by the Match Referee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision.

“Mr. Jadeja admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.

“For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” IPL said in a media release.

The loss against Kings XI Punjab was the Gujarat side’s second defeat of the season as Axar Patel ran through the batting order with a four-wicket haul, which included a hat-trick. Ravindra Jadeja was the hat-trick wicket for the left-arm spinner, who removed Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Bravo in the last two balls of his opening over. Jadeja was given caught behind by the umpire, and seemed unhappy with the decision before making the slow walk to the dressing room.

Gujarat Lions are at the top of the table with six wins from eight games, and will face Delhi Daredevils in their next match on May 3 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot.
