Jammu & Kashmir pull out of Vizzy Trophy, can’t contact players, confirms JKCA

The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association has withdrawn their state team from the Vizzy Trophy at Visakhapatnam as they could not contact its players, including captain Parvez Rasool. Governor Satya Pal Malik did not respond to requests to provide security arrangements for the team to travel.

The entire state of Jammu & Kashmir has been suffering in the aftermath of the central government’s decision to scrap Article 370 from the Indian constitution. JKCA CEO Syed Bukhari confirmed that despite the improving conditions, there was no way for the state association to communicate with its players.

“It’s unlikely we will be going to play Vizzy Trophy. The situation is improving, but the biggest obstacle has been in communication with our players. We have cell-phone numbers of all our players in our association office, but they have not given any landline numbers. We have managed to speak to a few players but couldn’t speak to those who are in the Valley as their mobile phones aren’t working. Also, we don’t know where Parvez Rasool is,” Bukhari was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

The CEO also stated that the association did not send in any team to find out the whereabouts of their players. 

“If we sent our car to search for our players, we don’t know what is happening in their villages,” he said. “We don’t want to take that risk. As this is just a local tournament and not a BCCI tournament, we thought it’s better not play this season,” Bukhari added.
