Suryakumar Yadav talked about a lot of things in a recent podcast. He also revealed how AB de Villiers inspires him to play an aggressive style of the game. Also, he expressed his desire to be an ODI and T20I player like AB de Villiers for the Indian team.

The Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, is also known as the 360° player for the team. But if you have been watching the game for a long time, you must know about the first Mr. 360°, and it is AB de Villiers. After his retirement, used to call Suryakumar Yadav the new Alien for the Indian team.

But the Indian skipper reveals that he still has a lot of things to learn from AB de Villiers. Suryakumar Yadav is able to make himself a proper T20 player, adapting well to the shorter format of the game. However, at the same time, he is yet to be a main element of the Indian team in the ODI format.

1. Suryakumar Yadav on AB de Villiers

Suryakumar Yadav has been a success in the T20I format. But he is still not able to prove his worth for the team in the ODI format of the game. At the same time, he thinks about AB de Villiers, who had a similar style to his in the limited-overs format. But he was able to complete the transition from the ODI phase and T20I phase with ease.

This has helped AB de Villiers to be a crucial part of the South African team across all formats of the game. And for Suryakumar Yadav, he has not been a part of the Indian team in any other format except the T20Is. He has expressed his desire to play in the ODI format for the team and even play well in the ODI World Cup, which will be played in 2027.

Suryakumar Yadav , “If I meet him soon, then I want to ask him (de Villiers) how did he balance his T20I and ODI game? Because I have not been able to do so. I thought ODI should be played like T20I. I want to ask him what did he do to be successful in both formats.”

Continuing this, the Indian skipper said, “AB, if you are listening to this, please get in touch with me quickly because there are important three-four years for me ahead. And I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket also. Please help me! I couldn’t balance between T20Is and ODIs.”

, Suryakumar Yadav has shown his desire to play for the Indian team in the ODI format. As the 2027 World Cup looms closer, he still has his eyes set on the T20 World Cup 2026 first. Being the captain of the T20 team, he wants to represent the team in the ODI format once again. A response from AB de Villiers is also awaited on the same.

2. Suryakumar Yadav's ODI Career

Suryakumar Yadav has also been a part of the Indian team in the ODI format. Despite it also being a limited-overs format, he has not been able to adapt well to the team. Due to this reason, his numbers in the 50-over format have not been impressive for the BCCI selectors to give him another chance in this format.

Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs:

  • Innings: 35
  • Not Out: 5
  • Runs: 773
  • Average: 25.76
  • Strike Rate: 105.02
  • 100s: 0
  • 50s: 4

His ODI debut came against Sri Lanka back in 2021. While chasing the total, he was able to score 31 runs off just 20 balls, which helped India to win the game by 7 wickets. Eventually, Suryakumar Yadav was able to create a statement of intent with his knock. But he was not able to carry his form in the ODI format

Suryakumar Yadav was also a part of India's ODI team for the World Cup 2023. The final match against Australia turned out to be his last for the Indian team in this format. He was only able to score 18 runs off 28 balls, failing to score runs for the team. Since the World Cup final, Suryakumar Yadav has not been a part of the Indian team in this format.
