After missing out on the India tour of Australia, he returned to action in the series against South Africa. Still, he made sure to grab wickets for the Indian team at regular intervals, and the Proteas batsmen.

By the end of the first innings, Bumrah was able to bag yet another five-wicket haul. This has also marked his 13th five-wicket haul, as he now overtakes Wasim Akram to be the Asian bowler with the most fifers against the SENA countries. Bumrah has now shown that he not just dominates against Asian teams, he dominates more against SENA teams.
