Runout is the last thing a batting side wishes when things are going their way, and Sai Sudharsan nearly cost India during the first Test against the West Indies. The Tamil Nadu batter continued watching the ball after playing a shot, as he forgot to run an easy single, almost dismissing KL Rahul.

‌India got off to a good start in the first Test, dismissing the West Indies for a paltry 162 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah picked up seven wickets between them to close the visitors’ batting essay within two sessions on the opening day.

In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal (36) and KL Rahul got the home side to a decent start, adding 68 runs in the first 18 overs. But the left-handed opener suffered a lapse in concentration to be dismissed by pacer Jayden Seales, against the run of play.

Sai Sudharsan, playing his first Test at home, joined Rahul in the middle as the pair tried to take India closer to the visitors’ total. But the southpaw had a moment of mind-freeze, which would have cost India another wicket.

He tried to work a short of a length delivery, which turned into him, towards the left of square leg. As the fielder slowly made his way to the ball, Rahul also jogged to the keeper’s end in what looked like a regulation single.

But the Tamil Nadu batter was still enjoying his shot as his eyes were fixed on the red cherry. And Rahul noticed this late, as he was in close proximity to Sudharsan, and sprinted his way back.

Sudharsan tried to compensate as he also tried to run towards the runner’s end, and thanks to a mediocre throw, the opener reached safely. He was not at all impressed with his young partner, giving a stone-faced reaction as the left-hander rushed in with his apologies.

Twitter was not impressed as Sudharsan almost threw Rahul under the bus and cost India another wicket. However, the southpaw himself got out in the next over, trying to play across the line to leave India at 90/2.
