AUS vs IND | Twitter laughs as Tim David mistakes ball for ice-cream after tricky take in the field

Eclectic celebrations have been on the rise in cricket in the social media era, which makes it refreshing to see instinctive send-offs for the sake of it when they occur. Tim David produced one such instance on Thursday after he managed to just hold onto Suryakumar Yadav's catch in the outfield.

India struggled for momentum after being put into bat first in the fourth T20I against Australia at Carrara Oval as Abhishek Sharma's 21-ball 28 and Shubman Gill's 39-ball 46 up top failed to give the team their usual explosive start. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav had to take matter into his own hands to inject some life into proceedings as he struck two brilliant maximums in a 10-ball cameo worth 20 runs, and with just five overs to go the veteran threatened to swing the game away from the hosts. But destiny had other plans.

Xavier Bartlett came on for his final over in the 16th and went straight for the stumps on a length, tempting SKY into another hoick towards square leg. However, he failed to get the desired connection and the Kookaburra soared high into the gold coast sky with Tim David settling under it. The ball took forever to descend but David kept waiting patiently and ultimately judged it well enough to complete the catch and send SKY packing. However, the white rock was on the brink of letting loose as it nestled between the penultimate and pinky finger of David, who held it up for everyone to see with a sigh. In the spur of the moment, David brought the ball close to his mouth and pretended to give it a couple of licks, leading to much amusement amongst his teammates.

Twitterati's reactin was no different.

Be it a Rahul Dravid or Cheteshwar Pujara, T20 cricket compels the classiest of batters to break free of all inhibitions and smash the ball. Shubman Gill does not particularly belong to the same bracket as a modern batter, but let go of all polish to strike a big hit on the Gold Coast.
